Artisans of Bhuj

Through the process of actively listening and comprehending the nuances, challenges, and triumphs of artisanal craft making in the northwestern region of Bhuj, we have been dedicated to developing avenues that showcase the exceptional work of its weaving, embroidery, and block printing artisans to a wider international audience. As facilitators, our ultimate goal is to bridge the gap and overcome the distance between the buyer and the maker through education, meaningful conversations, and heartfelt celebration. Previous projects have been driven by this intent, utilising community gatherings and exhibition showcases as mediums to achieving this vision.

The community of artisans we are connected to has received a design education from Somaiya Kala Vidya, a renowned design school that is committed to enhancing the expertise and nurturing the creativity of artisans. Founded by Judy Frater in 2003, it stands as one of the pioneering institutions providing artisans with a supportive and enriching space to develop their design and business skills, all while receiving essential financial support.
